Arts

Last week we did research on two careers in the Arts cluster. The two careers that I chose to do are
a dancer and a photographer. Both Dancers and Photographers have to have creativity. Dancers have to have creativity to be able to make up their dances or routines and make them unique but also make sure that you have motions that go along with your music. You might have a cute routine in mind that is slow but then have fast music. It won't look right! You have to have unique dance because if you just go an try to get a dance off the internet someone else might be doing the same thing so then neither of you will win because they will say one of you cheated. Photographers have to be creative because they have to have unique ideas for poses or locations. You can't use the same location as another local photographer because the other photographer will get mad. You can't just look online and see that someone else did something and then you go do it because you will start taking their business. That will be good for you at the beginning but then once the other photographer starts catching on to that they will start telling people that the only reason you got that idea was because of them so you will start losing business again. I think that most people in the arts cluster have to have creativity to do their jobs.

True Colors Assesment

Yesterday we had Sally from True Colors come in and give us an assesment to see what our true color is. We took the assesment and then we talked about all of our colors. We all lined up with the people with a high number on one side and a low number on the other to see if people were the color we thought they would be. My first color is orange. I guessed that I would be an orange because I'm very active and I'm not afraid to speak in front of a large group of people. Orange's are usually very bubbly people and I think I'm bubbly but I don't know if everyone else looks at me as a bubbly person. I'm a very energetic person and I can not sit still. It is really hard for me to like sit and take a test for a long time. Also most oranges are tactile learners. I find it funny how two completly different things can be connected, to me your personality and your learning style don't seem like they connect but after thinking about it they kind of are connected. If you are an energetic person it would be hard to sit and listen to someone talk to you or to see what someone is saying but it would be easy to stay entertained and focused if you are actually doing something.

True colors

Today we did research on True Colors. To me Mr. Dundas seems like he is green because he always seems really calm. Mrs. Pittenger seems like she would be orange because she is really organized. K-Rod is blue because if she is in a bad mood then she is in a bad mood. I think that Mrs. Rigdon is orange because she is so energetic. I think that Carson is blue because then no matter what mood she is in you can tell. I think Morgan is orange because she is always energetic and bubbly. Breezy is gold because she is always organized and OCD. Tatum Trego is green because she is always open to learning new things.

Business, Management and Administration

This week the past two days we have  been researching careers in Business Management and Administration. The two careers I did in this cluster are Court Clerk and Credit Checker. Court Clerks Perform clerical duties in court of law; prepare docket of cases to be called; secure information for judges; contact witnesses, attorneys and litigants to obtain information. Some of the skills they have to have are: active listening, speaking, reading comprehension, writing, time management, coordination and critical thinking. To be a court clerk you have to have at least have a High School diploma (GED) but some had some college and no degree or an associate's degree. Credit checkers investigate history, and credit standing of individuals or business applying for credit. The main skills they have to have are: active listening, speaking, critical thinking, reading comprehension, writing, active learning, judgment and decision making, monitoring, social perceptiveness, coordination, oral comprehension, oral expression, written expression and speech clarity. There aren't any formal requirements but each company has their own set of rules and demands as to how much training and or schooling they require.

Tactile learning

Mr. Boyers asked us a few questions today about our learning styles. I am a tactile learner, which pretty much just means that you learn better from hands on activities. Tactile learning has an impact on me because some people aren't able to just learn from what someone is saying and being able to remember exactly what they say, or at least remembering what everything they said means. Some people also can't learn from seeing something that is like written on the board or on a paper handed to them. Like me for example, if I see a paper I won't remember what is on that paper unless I rewrite it myself. I won't remember what someone is saying if I don't write it down. I have to be able to do something with the information rather than just looking at it or hearing it for me to comprehend it. This will help me in high school and beyond because if someone is a visual learner they usually would just say "I have a photographic memory" and then they wouldn't take notes or anything and then when it comes time for the test they don't know somethings because they didn't take notes to help them study with. People who are auditory learners would say they are listening then get distracted and not take notes because they were "listening" but a tactile learner would be taking notes because that is how they will remember it best but then it will also help when it comes to time for the test because they will be able to go back to the notes they wrote to help study.

Architecture and Construction

Over the course of first quarter, we have been researching careers from different clusters. Last week we did the cluster Architecture and Construction. The two careers I did are a roofer and an architect. These two careers are important to me because without an architect there wouldn't be any buildings or at least any well designed buildings. You wouldn't be able to have a house with all of the rooms how or where you want it to be because there wouldn't be anyone to design the layout of it. You wouldn't be able to have a business with all of the offices or whatever you need because you again wouldn't have anyone to design the layout. The other career that I did was a roofer. Roofers are important to me because without a roofer there would be nobody to make a roof for a house or a building so every time it rained or snowed it would get inside the house. Roofers do roofs on a lot of other things not just houses though, they had to put a roof on the school, all of the businesses, shops or garages. They don't just use shingles to roof a house they can also use metal or tin and many other kinds of materials. Even though neither of these careers are anything that I would want to do they are still important to me because without them the buildings and houses wouldn't be the same.

STEM connection

Mr. Boyars was wondering what the connections I could make to the two careers I did in the cluster STEM. The two careers that I did were a Chemist and a Geneticist. Both of those careers have to perform some sort of testing. They also both have to have a lot of experience and training in computers and electronics to do their job. They have to be very fluent in the English language. They also both have to be good in math and science. They both have to have good reading comprehension, active learning, complex problem solving, written comprehension and expression, oral comprehension and expression, inductive and deductive reasoning, problem sensitivity, and information ordering! A Chemist and a Geneticist are two completely different careers but they still have a lot in common!!!
